This event is held annually to honor the Four Chaplains of the SS Dorchester, a WWII troop transport that was torpedoed and sank in North Atlantic on February 3rd, 1943. The Chaplains gave up their life jackets and gave their lives to save as many people as they could, ministering as long as they could. Local clergy are invited to the dinner to participate in the short candlelight vigil Civitan holds in their honor. The event also gives the community an opportunity to recognize the selfless service of the local clergy as well.
